Oh Distance

Far too often we seem to reach the boiling point for our stress levels and slowly begin to bubble over. We’ve fallen behind in school and catching up on homework feels next to impossible. Or maybe our relationships are on a downward spiral that keeps picking up speed with every twist and turn. Or maybe you’re just sick of the “you” that you’ve become in this town… Regardless, escape is in high demand.
All the sudden a new city, a new school, new faces, and a new you, seems like the primary solution to all the doubt and angst welling up within you. The trouble is that though distance looks fantastic in our day dreams, it doesn’t full live up to that beautiful expectation. A new place just means new problems. New people mean new fallouts within friendships. And a new you will often look a lot like the old one you thought you left behind.
That’s not to say that getting away isn’t necessary sometimes. It certainly is I think we can all agree on that especially when it comes to breaks or vacations. The point is that sometimes we like to think it will solve all our dilemmas and it won’t do that at all. Instead either our problems will piggy back on us to our new destination, or if that doesn’t happen we’ll just find brand new ones there. Though this may all seem strictly pessimistic it in fact teaches us to accept the way things are now, instead of dwelling on how we desperately wish they could be.

  1. Escape might not solve a lot of people's problems, but for those special circumstances, I guess it's a matter of worth. Sh*t happens, we all know that. But why always deal with it? If it's not worth it. Leave it be. Quit your day job..... Find something that makes the troubles worth it.
Eh, I guess this is only is certain circumstances.... When it comes to high school, it's move it or lose it ("it" being a diploma) I guess the way i see my scholarly problems is taking it one day at a time!

  2. I think the new you will always look like the old you and that's the problem. No matter where you go if you can't change the same problems will appear sooner or later.
